I am Spartacus! Or at least, I have Spartacus—the 6CD Varèse Sarabande box set. We’re asking $235. It’s $350+ on eBay right now.
I am always taken by the life cycle of these things: this is one of the all-time masterpieces that we were dying to get for decades. Then it finally came out and we all grabbed it. It went out of print and the prices skyrocketed. When I first started doing these sales a year ago, I wouldn’t keep a Spartacus in stock for more than a few hours. But I’ve had this one for a month or more. Does everybody who wanted it already have it? Do people even watch Spartacus anymore? Or know or care what it is? They should! But I appreciate $235 is a lot to spend on something if you don’t already know and love it.
We have a signed copy of Sorcery on La-La Land by Mark Mancina, only $15.
We have one copy of an interesting CD I helped out with from Intrada and the Alex North estate: North’s rejected score to Sounder plus an 1950s industrial film he scored called Decision for Chemistry. Pretty neat album that is out of print, $35. We also have, if you’re interested, the Taj Mahal Sounder score on Varèse Sarabande, $10.
We have two copies of a really cool 1970s sci-fi CD I was proud of at FSM: Soylent Green by Fred Myrow and Demon Seed by Jerry Fielding, $25. Soylent Green has one of my favorite pieces of 1970s pop source music:
We have a copy of Species by Christopher Young on Intrada (ISC 77) for only $18.
We have a copy of Speed 2 by Mancina on La-La Land, $35.
We have a copy of the Varèse Encore Edition of Spies Like Us, a fun Bernstein adventure-comedy score from 1985, $25. As I recall, this is the project where Bernstein and John Landis recorded the score in Germany and during the trip prank called Leni Riefenstahl. Now that would be a great bonus track!
We have a copy of the fun Vic Mizzy scores for The Spirit Is Willing and The Busy Boy on Percepto, $12.
We have a sealed copy of The Spy With My Face: The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Movies, on FSM, $12.
Staccato/Paris Swings is a doubleheader of two classic Bernstein albums on one CD, on EMI, $8.
Stan Kenton Conducts the Los Angeles Neophonic Orchestra is a classical CD that is a must for John Williams fans (only $5): it contains the early Williams concert work, “Prelude and Fugue,” a jazzy piece which is very much of that Lost in Space era. Terrific!
We’re now into the Star Trek CDs. You can review the Trek stock at this page at the store. We have copies of the La-La Land Enterprise collections volume one and volume two, each $65. We have several sealed copies of the 2CD reissue La-La Land set of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, $25—a must! And for nostalgia, I love the original GNP Crescendo release of Star Trek: The Next Generation, “The Best of Both Worlds,” which I just rewatched—Ron Jones’ finest hours on the show! Only $3.
From the Star Wars galaxy, we have an interesting Japanese edition of The Rise of Skywalker, $18. Same music, but cool packaging.
Stay Tuned is the Bruce Broughton score to the Peter Hyams film, on Intrada, $15.
We have a copy of The Stepford Wives remake score by David Arnold on La-La Land, $25.
Stonehurst Asylum is an obscure John Debney score on Lakeshore, $35.
The Story on Page One/The Reward is an Elmer Bernstein two-fer of vintage Fox movies, on Intrada, $18.
We have two copies of a terrific La-La Land TV album, The Streets of San Francisco, a 2CD of Patrick Williams music, $25.
Incredible to think we have The Sugarland Express by John Williams at long last. We have a copy of the new La-La Land CD for $25.
We have a Sunrise CD signed by composer Joe Kraemer, his score to the silent film, on Caldera, $18.
We have three copies of Super 8 by Giacchino, the J.J. Abrams film, on Varèse Sarabande for $45.
A reminder that we have boxes and boxes of the hardbound book from the Superman CD box set we did at FSM. You can throw one in with your order for only $1.
We have the lovely Bronislau Kaper score to The Swan, on FSM, $12.
Bees! Killer bees! We have the La-La Land edition of The Swarm by Goldsmith for $25. Also the old Prometheus for $8.
Swept From the Sea is a romantic John Barry 1990s score I really liked at the time—and still do! We have a copy for $8. Lovely!
We have the Intrada reissue of Switchback by Poledouris for $25.
Symphonic Soul is a 1970s Mancini album with some fun stuff on it. We have the RCA release for $15.
Finally, today, Synanon/Enter Laughing is a Kritzerland two-fer of the old Hefti and Quincy Jones soundtracks, $8.
Back tomorrow for the T titles!
That Patrick Williams set also had Williams' theme and score for the first produced episode of late-period (and not very good) QM series "A Man Called Sloane". The pilot movie "T.R. Sloane" (which I watched on YouTube in all its "glory".) was a track job (which surprised me...).
