Coming Soon: The Larry Tate CD Collection

We have on hand the next CD collection we’ll be selling, from a late collector named Larry Tate who was a longtime customer and friend of Intrada.

Jeff Johnson at Intrada explains:

Larry Tate was one of the Intrada “regulars” who used to come to the San Francisco store location and hang out on Saturdays. Larry loved movies and film scores and would frequently tag along when the Intrada crew would go to the movies—or get together to watch movies at Doug's house. Doug would host these Oscar parties every year and the Intrada gang would all fill out ballots, trying to predict the winners. Larry would almost always win the Oscar pool. He was a very good friend of Doug’s and even after Larry moved to the East Coast, he would regularly come to town to visit Doug and watch movies.

Larry left his CD collection to Intrada, and the hitch in selling it has been that Larry put all his discs (and accompanying booklets and tray cards, don’t worry) into CaseLogic binders. So we’re buying new jewel boxes to reassemble them, but it will take a few weeks. His collection is very strong in European titles, and appears be 1,500–2,000 discs.

Intrada has enlisted us to handle this, because, as with Douglass Fake’s collection, we’re better set up to process the listings.

I’m starting to feel like a character in Six Feet Under processing collections from people who have passed. It’s somber and bittersweet, and then a little weird promoting it and becoming naturally excited to find an interesting title.

All I can do is acknowledge that, and try to do the best we can to make some money for the estates and get the CDs into the homes of people who will appreciate them.

Thank you all! We’ll announce a date for Larry’s collection when we know more.
