FSM 35th Anniversary

I only recently realized that it is about to be the 35th anniversary of Film Score Monthly.

There isn’t an exact date as it began quite organically: I had a letter to the editor published in Starlog magazine, a handful of fellow fans wrote to me about starting a fan club for movie music, and I started send them a newsletter. This was spring 1990 and I generally think of June 1990 as the starting point.

I didn’t come up with the FSM name two years later, and I remember going back and forth between Film Score Monthly and Film Music Monthly, but chose Film Score Monthly because it was one syllable shorter.

I am thinking of plans to celebrate our 35th anniversary—so stay tuned!
