I have a problem that I never thought I would have. And to be clear, this is a GOOD problem! But it’s nonetheless something I need to figure out, pronto.
Above is the remaining inventory from the Paul Scannell collection, in our living room.
This is the state of what used to be our guest room, which has our earlier inventory:

This is another room in our house where I’ve parked some CDs from the Douglass Fake collection:

And this is around 40% of the Douglass Fake collection, which just arrived yesterday from Intrada:

There is still MORE—much more—of Doug’s collection to come!
So the problem is...I do not have space for it all!
According to the Science Department’s calculations, we will need to buy even more of those white storage boxes (from Uline) and six-foot folding tables (from Target) and take over even more rooms in the house to be able to sell Doug’s collection all at once.
Otherwise, we’ll have to do it in two or maybe three sales, and I don’t really want to do that. Maybe it’s emotional but I really want people to see and appreciate Doug’s incredible lifelong collection in one go.
So there is a window of time to do this and monopolize the house (even our kitchen for heaven’s sake): the week of March 31st, when my wife and kids will be out of town.
That is going to be here faster than we think!
All of this is a roundabout way of asking...will you please buy more CDs? We had a huge week when we launched Paul’s sale on the 11th, and most people should be receiving their orders now (if they haven’t already).
I’m sure a lot of folks have exhausted their budget or grabbed everything they want—but I’m also sure that there were other things in the listings that were on the “maybe” or “later” list.
So I don’t want to be pushy, but I’m a big believer that you have to ask for what you want. So I want to ask people to take another look at the list and see if they want to place a second (or even third) order.
It’s really a logistical thing: The more space I can free up now, the easier it will be to process and set up Doug’s collection.
Here is a spreadsheet of our available inventory, which you can easily review, and then place your order at the store.
One thing I am not going to do—even though it would drive sales—is discount anything at this time. For one thing, we already have prices as low as we can go.
For another, I don’t want people to be grumpy that they ordered before the sale happened. I want collectors to be confident that these are the prices and that there’s no real incentive to wait. (I may mark down some titles from time to time that it looks like I overpriced, but that would be only a few things.)
So that’s the update for today!
Oh in case anybody is asking...I would love to be able to rent warehouse space to run FSMCDs, but real estate prices in L.A. are insane, and I’m never sure if I’ll have enough business to justify a lease.
I truly appreciate everybody’s orders and support. Thank you!
