I discovered a YouTube channel called Halfscreen which has lengthy videos of 3-D renderings of iconic spaceships. Lots of Star Trek, Star Wars and more.
Here’s the Enterprise-D, the top half, anyway:
I’ve written before how into this stuff I was as a teenager.
Watching this I got a pang of nostalgia for what it was like, age 16, to spend my whole week poring over these blueprints, as if the Enterprise was a real ship.
Then, I would watch the new episode of The Next Generation and every glimpse of a set, or mention of a science lab, or new outer-space FX shot, would suddenly bring it all to life.
It was a wonderfully involving fantasy. And, sometimes, it still is!
