Thumbs up for Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, streaming on Max.
I was almost afraid to watch it because I didn’t want to sit there waiting for a terrible tragedy. But they start with the accident and frame everything around that.
It’s heartbreaking what that poor family went through—but inspiring what they have done to change the world.
I am the exact right age to have experienced the Christopher Reeve Superman movies. Even though the quality tanks in the latter two films, he is always perfect and will forever be “our” Superman (speaking for my generation). He’s not only physically right off the comic page, but had such a sweetness and gentle heart that you believed in the goodness behind his powers.
And of course I remember the news of his accident, and then his courage to go public to raise money and awareness—and his death, followed not long thereafter by the death of his wife Dana from a freak case of lung cancer.
It’s a great doc, check it out!
