I am fine to let the millennials have their version of Superman. This is how it always has been and should be: each generation reinterprets these myths and stories for themselves. (James Gunn is more Gen X, like me, though.)
This does remind me of 1989, though. Why 1989? That’s when after four years of intense reading of Marvel Comics, I decided I had had enough and stopped buying them.
The stories were repeating, the art was changing—not sure if I was becoming smarter, but it definitely seemed like the comics were getting dumber.
When I got to college in 1992, the town had a comics shop, and I’d go in and check out what the X-Men were up to, and I couldn’t follow anything. This was only three years later but everything was splash pages of fisticuffs and hot butts.
Not sure Krypto the Dog is going to work but I try to review movies after I see them, not before!
